- As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and set the stage for what’s next. If you’ve felt disconnected from your content this year—perhaps even disheartened by not achieving what you set out to—it might be time to reimagine how you approach content creation. This isn’t just about meeting targets; it’s about aligning with your true purpose and nurturing your business and yourself in the process.
Embracing Reflection
Taking time to reflect on the past year can be incredibly rewarding. Reflect on your wins, challenges, and, most importantly, your growth. This process not only honours your journey but sets a solid foundation for the upcoming year. When you create space for reflection, you’re not just reviewing numbers or metrics; you’re understanding what truly resonated with you and your audience.
Reflection Exercise
Grab a notebook, or use a guide, to jot down reflections on your 2024 content journey:
- Ease of Creation: Start by listing your content platforms—be it blogs, social media, emails, or podcasts. Which were the easiest for you to produce? Ease doesn’t imply less value; it suggests natural alignment with your skills and resources.
- Love for Creation: Consider where your heart lies. Which types of content did you genuinely enjoy creating? Passion often translates into authenticity, and your audience senses this.
- Potential Reward: Evaluate what could give you the most reward. This could mean different things—sales, visibility, engagement, or personal satisfaction. Connecting these dots can reveal surprising insights about where to focus your energies in 2025.
Letting Go and Moving Forward
It’s equally important to acknowledge that letting go is part of this process. Are there types of content that drain you without substantial returns? Letting them go could be liberating, allowing you to focus on what fulfils you and your business goals.
Celebrating Achievements
Now, let’s celebrate your wins! Recognition can fuel motivation. Take pride in your accomplishments, no matter how small they seem.
Learning from Experience
As you reflect, keep an eye on lessons learned. For me, this year it included:
- Everything is a season. There’s times this year that my business took a huge backseat to other things in my personal life. And that’s ok. When my priorities change but stay aligned with my values (which happen to be family, connection and community) then it’s ok
- Not everything has to be about the business. This is a hard one. I’ve put 8 years into being a solopreneur and I’ve loved it. But I’ve realised that sometimes other things matter more and even if I’m not making 6 figures or having $10k months, I’m here with a smile on my face and a community I love.
- You don’t have to love your business 100% of the time. So this one’s a recent lesson. Sometimes business is boring and sometimes you need a break from an aspect of it (like content) or the whole thing itself. This isn’t failure. It’s self-care. Having a break – whether that means an actual physical break or doing something else altogether can help bring you clarity on what you really want to do and how you want to be doing it. Look out for an episode early 2025 expanding more on my recent experience with falling out of love with the concept of business.
