Building your email list isn’t about racking up the numbers. It’s about creating a meaningful connection with people who actually want to hear from you. The Subscribe stage of the client journey is where curiosity turns into commitment. It’s the bridge between someone being aware of your work and deciding they want to be part of your world.
What the Subscribe Stage Is All About
Think of this stage as an intentional invitation. When someone has been quietly watching, listening, or scrolling through your content, the Subscribe stage is your opportunity to say, “Hey, come a little closer.” It’s where you deepen the relationship by offering something valuable – a reason for them to take that next step.
It’s about helping someone move from “That’s interesting” to “I want to learn more from them.”
Creating Intentional Invitations
Intentional invitations are about being deliberate with your offers. They’re not random freebies or quick fixes that everyone’s doing. They’re thoughtful, helpful resources that meet your audience exactly where they are.
When you create a lead magnet, think about what your person needs right now to feel a sense of progress. What would give them a quick win and help them see what’s possible? The connection starts with a genuine desire to make her life or business a little easier today.
Your Email List Is Your Home Base
Social platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube are incredible for visibility, but they’re borrowed spaces. You don’t own them, which means you can lose access to your audience at any time.
Your email list, on the other hand, is yours. It’s your home base. It’s the place where you get to show up as yourself, speak directly to your people, and nurture those deeper relationships. It’s where trust grows, conversations happen, and sales naturally follow.
When you think of your list this way, it stops being a ‘marketing tool’ and starts becoming a community space.
How to Create an Aligned and Effective Lead Magnet
If you want your lead magnet to work for you (and your audience), it needs to feel aligned and not like a random add-on. I use four guiding principles for creating something that’s both powerful and doable:
- Actionable – Give your audience a quick win. Something she can complete in about 20 minutes and feel like she’s made real progress.
- Relevant – Solve a problem that’s front-of-mind for them right now. If it’s not urgent or important to her, they won’t take action.
- Aligned – Make sure your freebie naturally leads to your paid offers. It should be part of the same conversation, not a completely different topic.
- Doable – Keep it simple for you, too. Don’t overcomplicate it. Reimagine something you already have or use content you’ve already created.
Common Pitfalls to Watch For
Even with the best intentions, it’s easy to fall into a few traps at this stage:
- Misalignment: Offering something that doesn’t connect to your business or your bigger message.
- Over-delivering: Giving too much information and overwhelming your audience instead of helping them take action.
- Neglecting subscribers: Forgetting to nurture the relationship after someone joins your list. Subscribing is just the beginning, not the end.
- Relying on borrowed spaces: Focusing only on social media growth without investing time in your own list and community.
Bringing It All Together
When you start seeing your Subscribe stage as a way to deepen relationships instead of just grow your list, everything changes.
You’ll create intentional invitations that attract the right people who are genuinely ready for the next step with you.
You’ll design simple, actionable resources that deliver real value and build momentum. And you’ll begin treating your email list as your home base – the place where you nurture deeper connections and create lasting impact.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not about having the biggest list. It’s about building a space filled with the right people. The ones who trust you, learn from you, and feel inspired to grow alongside you.

Transforming Connection into Aligned Conversion
The Convert stage of the client journey is where interest becomes intention — and intention becomes action. It’s not about convincing someone to buy from you.
Mastering the Nurture Stage: Deepening Genuine Connections
When you nurture well, your audience doesn’t feel pressured. They feel understood, and they start to work with you from a place of hope, possibility, and trust. You’re not a pushy salesperson—you’re a trusted guide.
Ditch the sales funnels to create content that feels good
Sales funnels, pain points, and pushy tactics might work for some, but for heart-led entrepreneurs, they can feel completely out of alignment. Because at your core, you don’t want to manipulate people into working with you. You want to connect with them.
